Ann Finnemore, Hypnotherapy, Coaching and Stress Management

I blog about the latest research, items appearing in the news, related books I've read and about how the various tools and techniques I use in therapy and coaching work. I also like to pass on any tips that could help you succeed in making any of those changes you've been thinking of (along with the occasional healthy recipe). I hope at least some of what I write makes you think -- that's always a good way to kick off a change of some sort!

Is anger wrecking your life?

Is anger wrecking your life?

A favourite quotation of mine is,

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned”.

I like it because I’ve seen the damage that anger can cause in people who are unwilling or unable to let go of their feelings about a particular injustice. The anger begins to impact upon their ability to enjoy life, it damages their relationships and, eventually, it impacts upon their physical and mental well-being.Yet, all the time that the anger is damaging the person holding on to it, the subject of it – the person or organisation at which the anger is directed – is unaffected.

People nurse anger because they fear that letting go of it is the same as letting the subject off the hook in some way. They worry that if they stop being angry, they are somehow accepting the injustice. So they continue to hold on to the anger, allowing it to burn them up from inside. Many people have their lives blighted by anger, unable to find a way of moving past it into a better future.

However, it is necessary to let go of anger if you are to be healthy, happy and have good relationships with others.I offer coaching to clients face-to-face and via Skype, so wherever you are, why not find out more about how I could help you to achieve the success that you deserve?  Contact me today to a happy future but who are held back by their inability to let go of anger.  The transformation that can occur as a person finally gives themselves permission to let go of their anger is amazing. Seeing how they begin to plan for a happy future, rebuild their relationships and start to enjoy their lives again is a most rewarding part of my work.

If you are holding on to anger then re-read the quotation above, and become aware of the damage you might be doing to yourself. You might find you’re ready to let go of that hot coal now.
