Coaches need coaches too
It’s easy to imagine that a coach will be able to use self-motivation to achieve all of their own goals. After all, this goal-achieving stuff is our bread-and-butter, right? It’s the very air that we breathe, so surely we need no-one to give us a kick up the backside to get things done. Funnily enough – no! Coaches as just as likely to have blind spots about their own ability to achieve, they can be just as prone to self-limiting beliefs too at times, they are human after all.
So it was with me and my unfocused wish to write a coaching book. I’d been intending to write for years, and yet despite writing many articles and blogs, I was no closer at the start of last year as I had ever been. I simply didn’t know where or how to start.
Eventually though I saw a flyer workshop on writing business books. It was being run by someone that I know personally (Sarah Houldcroft of http://www.goldcrestbooks.com) and who I know has worked with authors and their books for many years, so I signed up for it.
The workshop itself was a great way of identifying what I could do to get started, and what I could write about. I realised though that there was a risk of life and business getting in the way again once I finished the workshop and so I enrolled for a “book boot camp”. To have coaching specifically on the goal of writing and publishing a book.
The difference the coaching made was incredible. Starting in March last year (2016), I set a target of getting a book out before the end of this year. With regular online coaching (similar to Skype) my final copy was ready in September – proof-read and illustrated. The book itself “Life in the driving seat: your road trip to happiness” and has been available in paperback and kindle versions on Amazon since 7th December 2016.
Without the support and guidance of an experienced and knowledgeable book coach and publisher, it would still only be a fuzzy intention instead of a hard reality.
That’s the power of coaching – it can enable all of us to stop just wishing and to actually start doing instead. It can quite literally turn a dream into a reality. And all of us can benefit from that.
Now I'm focussing on my fitness and I have a personal trainer coaching me along the way with whom I started working in August 2016. We've agreed goals and I'm making progress - can't wait to see how much progress I'll make after a year of it!
I work with clients face-to-face and via Skype, so wherever you are, why not find out more about how I could help you to achieve the happiness success that you deserve? I am also available to talk to groups who want to learn more about stress management and confidence building. Contact me today for more information.
