Triggers of IBS

The cause of IBS is not known.  BS affects the colon (otherwise know as the bowel or large intestine).  It is what is known as a  functional disease because it affects the function of the colon, causing symptoms, but produces no visible damage to it.  The gut itself looks normal – even under a microscope.  This is one of the reasons that it can be difficult to diagnose.  It is important, however, that you get a diagnosis from your doctor before arranging for hypnotherapy treatment.

Although the cause of IBS is unknown, there are a number of things which can make the symptoms worse.  These triggers differ between individuals in the extent of their effects, with not all sufferers affected by all triggers.  The most common triggers are:

•   anxiety/stress      large meals    •   fatty foods    •   milk and milk products

•   low fibre diets    •   caffeine    •   fizzy drinks    •   alcohol.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) -- Triggers

NOTE: It is important that you have received a medical diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome before receiving hypnotherapy for IBS management.  This is because it is vital that there is no risk that your symptoms are the result of an undiagnosed medical condition which requires clinical investigation.

Therefore, I do not offer the IBS treatment programmes to anyone suffering symptoms for which no medical diagnosis has yet been received.
